Western Force have added former Waratahs centre Rory Sidey to their ranks for next year's Super Rugby season.

Sidey has been drafted in to cover primarily at outside centre but can play in a number of roles in the backline. He made his Super Rugby debut at the start of last season for New South Wales, winning four caps for the Waratahs and featuring in their Super 14 semi-final defeat to the Stormers.

Sidey previously had a stint in Wales with the Newport Gwent Dragons, joining the Magners League region from the Western Sydney Rams. And it is Sidey's versatility that has seen the Force move for his signature.

"Rory adds depth to the outside centre position and will compete with Mitch Inman for that spot but can also play inside centre and wing," coach Richard Graham said. "He's a strong defender, has a good understanding of the game and a really competitive nature that will be welcome in our environment. Rory is a quality bloke and he'll fit well into the group."

Keen to develop his game and nail down a starting spot, the 24 year old says he jumped at the chance to move to Western Australia. "It all happened really quickly actually," Sidey said.

"I received a call from Richard a couple of weeks ago, flew over for a few days to have a look at the set-up and was really impressed with what I saw. There is a great structure in place and a foundation of a really good team. It's a great opportunity for me to progress my rugby and I'm looking forward to being part of a successful future at the club."
