The Hurricanes have received a boost ahead of the 2012 Super Rugby season with news of two key contract renewals.

Loose forwards Serge Lilo and Jack Lam have both committed to the Wellington franchise, with Lam re-signing for one year while Lilo will remain a part of the squad until 2013. Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett was delighted with the news that the flankers had decided to stay in Wellington. "Serge is a true warrior who will always give everything for the team and has great values as a person," Hammett said. "Jack was a consistent performer throughout the campaign and was a great team member. He had a great debut season and picked up the Rookie of the Year award, voted for by his team-mates. We are delighted that he has chosen the Hurricanes and look forward to having him back."

The Hurricanes are, however, facing a battle to keep hold of some key All Blacks with Aaron Cruden still undecided on where his future lies. Cory Jane, meanwhile, has agreed to play for the Hurricanes next season if he decides to stay in New Zealand. "Cory is still considering his options for next year, but he has now signed a contract with us which states that if he plays Super Rugby next year it will be with the Hurricanes rather than any other franchise," Hurricanes chief executive James Te Puni said.

The Hurricanes announced on Thursday that New Zealand international Piri Weepu had been offered a new contract. The Wellington side opted not to renew the contracts of All Blacks Andrew Hore and Ma'a Nonu at the end of the 2011 Super Rugby season.
