Australia back-rower Scott Higginbotham has agreed to join the Melbourne Rebels from the Queensland Reds.

The 25-year-old, who has won 11 caps for the Wallabies, has signed a two-year contract with the Rebels and will link up with the Melbourne Super Rugby franchise for next season.

"Scott's a current test player who we're confident will add to the culture of the Melbourne Rebels," coach Damien Hill said. "We believe Scott is a player whose best football is in front of him, he is without doubt a player on the rise, and we are all very excited about the news he will be joining us next season."

Higginbotham can operate at flanker or No.8 and, at 6ft 4in and more than 17 stone, is an influential presence in the lineout and in the loose. His signing follows the Rebels' policy of luring big name internationals after the signings this season of Kurtley Beale and James O'Connor.
