Rob Simmons has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with the Queensland Reds and Australia.

The 22-year-old lock has played 16 times for the Wallabies and was a member of their Rugby World Cup squad in 2011, when he also helped the Reds to the Super Rugby crown.

He is the first Wallaby to ink a new deal in 2012, although 22 players pledged their immediate futures to Australia last year.

"It is encouraging to have a guy like Rob recommit to Queensland and Australian rugby for another two years," Wallabies boss Robbie Deans said.

"Players always have choice. Rob is a player who has a big future and is working hard towards that so it's pleasing he sees his future playing in Australia taking the game here forward.

"The fact that we have been able to keep our core group of Wallabies together is a positive sign for the direction the team is headed in, and the players' commitment to that."

Meanwhile, the Reds have also retained the services of Adam Wallace-Harrison. The former Brumbies lock has agreed a further three years at Suncorp Stadium.
