Chabal set for Super Rugby switch?

France behemoth Sebastien Chabal has announced that he will continue his career in Australia. The No.8 left Racing Metro earlier this monthamid rumours of a fallout between him and coach Pierre Berbizier over a new deal. Chabal's contract was set to expire at the end of the current season and while he was at the Parisian side, he was rumoured to be the highest paid player in world rugby. The French back-row was courting interest from around the world with Harlequins and Wasps supposedly in the chase along with Top 14 giants Stade Francais. But Chabal confirmed on French TV that he was off to the Southern Hemisphere saying: "I'm going to play in Australia soon". However, Chabal's next port of call is still up for debate. Super Rugby franchises the Melbourne Rebels or the Brumbies seem the most likely destination with the Waratahs, the Reds and the Western Force already possessing Wallabies at the back of the scrum. But the Rebels have already denied they have signed Chabal on their official Twitter account after they told one supporter to not believe the rumours about Chabal heading there. And the Reds have also distanced themselves from Chabal after their coach Ewen McKenzie denied that he was heading to Brisbane. If Chabal ends up in Super Rugby, then he will link up with fellow former France international Frederic Michalak with the mercurial half-back playing one final season with the Sharks before heading to Toulon. © ESPN Sports Media Ltd.
