Aaron Cruden has signed a new deal with the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) and will remain a Chiefs player until 2014.
The fly-half, who won the Rugby World Cup with the All Blacks in 2011, made the switch from the Hurricanes to the Chiefs in the close-season.
Capped nine times, Cruden was named ITM Cup Player of the Season after guiding Manawatu to the Championship final last year.
He then stepped in for the injured Dan Carter and Colin Slade as the All Blacks picked up the Webb Ellis Cup with victory over France in Auckland.
"I am really stoked to have re-signed with NZRU and the Chiefs until 2014," he said. "It was an easy decision for me, as I am really enjoying my footy in New Zealand and looking forward to the challenges that the next few years will bring."
Chiefs Coach Dave Rennie added: "It is great news for all New Zealand fans and in particular the Chiefs fans. Aaron is an integral part of this franchise going forward and epitomises everything we want in our Chiefs players. It is fantastic that he has made a commitment to us long-term."
