Australia flanker David Pocock has confirmed he is to leave the Western Force for the Brumbies following this season's Super Rugby competition.

The 24-year-old released a statement on his Facebook page, explaining his decision to quit the Western Force, where he has played all of his Super Rugby so far. Pocock said the decision had been "unbelievably hard" but he is looking forward to a new adventure with Jake White's Brumbies after signing a three-yead deal with them.

The Western Force had earlier conceded their failure to persuade Pocock to remain at the franchise, admitting their inability to secure big-name signings, such as the Reds' Australia scrum-half Will Genia, and challenge for a place in the Super Rugby play-offs had proved costly.

Pocock said: "Some decisions in life are very difficult. And with those decisions, more often than not, the more you wrestle with the options the harder it is to make a decision. This has certainly been the case in thinking about my playing future.

"I've loved living in Perth and playing for the Emirates Western Force and although it's time to begin an exciting new adventure with Em in Canberra, the decision has been unbelievably hard."

The 44-cap Wallaby, who lead Australia against Scotland and Wales recently, paid tribute to the Force fans and admitted the team's lack of success in recent years is a prime reason for his decision to leave.

Pocock said: "There have been times we have fallen well short of our potential and while the commitment of everyone at the club can't be faulted, for all of the attitude and best intentions - both on and away from the field, I wouldn't be honest if I didn't acknowledge that.

"And of course that has factored into our decision to leave, but it's only one in a number of factors that have convinced Em and I that it's time for a fresh start. Playing under former Springboks coach Jake White with all of his knowledge and experience will allow me to have a fresh approach to the game and continue to challenge myself."
