Stormers coach Allister Coetzee has denied rumours that he is set to become part of the Springboks coaching setup.

With Heyneke Meyer widely expected to be unveiled later this week as Peter de Villiers' successor, reports suggested that he was keen on bringing in Coetzee to assist him. But Coetzee - who was originally in the running to replace De Villiers - has denied the suggestions.

"Heyneke never approached me," Coetzee said. "We last chatted about two weeks ago, but we did not speak about Springbok-related matters."

The shortlist for the man to take on the head coach role at the Springboks was reportedly just down to two names - Meyer and Ireland coach Gert Smal. But Rapport suggested on Sunday that Meyer will be confirmed on Friday after meeting South African Rugby Union boss Jurie Roux last week. Meyer has only recently taken on a new role with the Bulls but has clearly impressed the SARU.
