Wales have added a midweek match against the Brumbies to their itinerary for the tour to Australia in June.

The Six Nations champions will play the Super Rugby side on June 12, three days after the first Test in Brisbane, and Wales caretaker coach Rob Howley is expected to use a second string team at Canberra Stadium. Wales also play tests against the Wallabies in Melbourne on June 16 and Sydney on June 23.

''We have a lot of young guys in this team who wouldn't have come up against an international team like Wales,'' Brumbies coach Jake White said. ''This will be a big test for them. The Welsh were one of the teams which impressed at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand and clearly they haven't slowed down, claiming the Six Nations undefeated."

The last time Wales played the Brumbies was in 1996 when they lost 69-30. Australia have won their most recent encounters in the Test arena. They won 21-18 in the 2011 Rugby World Cup's bronze medal match and then finished 24-18 victors in the Millennium Stadium in December.

For the Brumbies it will allow their players the chance to maintain their momentum during the four-week break in Super Rugby for the international window. Currently they are eight points top of the Australian conference with six rounds of matches left to play. By the time they return to action after the Tests on June 29, there will have three more matches before the play-offs begin.
