Benn Robinson is likely to start for New South Wales against Melbourne Rebels in Sydney on Friday night.

Robinson was dropped to the replacements bench in the Waratahs' opening game of the season against Queensland Reds in Brisbane last Saturday night, after coach Michael Cheika started Jeremy Tilse instead, but the Wallabies loosehead seemingly earned a recall with his strong effort.

"I thought he played well when he came on," Cheika said. "He had a lot of good involvements. He worked well at the scrum. He has put himself right in the frame for selection this week. "I thought he had a good impact on the game."

Benn Robinson said he was focused only on playing his best rugby, regardless of whether he started or not.

"As soon as I get on the park, I want to be playing my best footy and putting my best foot forward all the time," he said.

The prop was pleased with his performance, saying: "It was just getting out there and doing what I do best.

"I knew the set-piece was an area I had to be fairly dominant in ... for any player coming off a six- or seven-week break and a short pre-season, there's always areas to work on."
