Police question Digby Ioane
March 11, 2013

Melbourne police have interviewed Queensland Reds winger Digby Ioane after an alleged assault in the wake of the Super Rugby match against Melbourne Rebels on Friday night.

Ioane, 27, is reported to have been in a verbal altercation with another man at Mt Erica Hotel in High Street, Prahran, late on Saturday afternoon. Ioane was in the hotel with his Melbourne-based elder brother, aged 30.

Police officials have confirmed they are investigating an alleged assault on a Prahran man, 30, who sustained a minor leg injury.

A Queensland Rugby Union spokesman confirmed that union officials were aware of an incident involving Ioane in Melbourne on Saturday night.

ARU integrity manager Phil Thomson was immediately informed of the incident, and Ioane will brief Reds chief Jim Carmichael on the matter before training on Monday.

Ioane remained in Melbourne for the weekend with team-mate Quade Cooper after the 23-13 victory over the Rebels. It is understood that Cooper was not present at the time of the alleged incident, but was at the Mount Erica Hotel on Saturday night.

The entire Rebels squad were also at the venue in a private area for a team dinner, with no Rebels involved in the alleged fracas.
