Mitch Inman has given Melbourne Rebels a boost after their torrid tour of South Africa, and given reports of off-field problems, by re-signing with the Super Rugby franchise until the end of 2015.

The former Western Force player has been a beacon of consistency for the Rebels since moving to Melbourne, earning himself selection in the Wallabies extended training squad in 2012, and he "couldn't be happier".

I really enjoy playing with the guys here and believe in this club and its rugby program moving forward," Inman said. "I have been in discussions with the Club for some time, but it is great to be back in Australia and sign on the dotted line this week."

Inman paid tribute to the Rebels' support, saying the club's ethos had played a crucial role in his decision. "I can't speak highly enough of the Rebels fans. The club is so well support; even through the tough times the fans and members are so loyal. You just have to give them credit; they are some of the best supporters going around.

"The club has also allowed me to continue my off field endeavours one day a week. I want to take full advantage of this and continue with my studies and get some valuable work experience as well as continuing to play rugby in the best provincial competition in the world."

Inman is positive the coaching staff have the Rebels primed for an improved performance against his former team in Perth before they finally return home to Melbourne.

"Even though we have come across a couple of big losses, the boys are willing to hang in there and are showing great character," he said. "The coaching staff are doing everything that they can to keep us motivated and get the most out of us, and full credit has to go to Hilly [Damien Hill] and the entire coaching group for trying to get the best out of us despite a hugely disappointing tour of South Africa."
