Melbourne Rebels have signed former Australia Under-20 captain Colby Faingaa from the Brumbies on a one-year deal for the 2014 season.
Rebels coach Damien Hill said Fainga'a, the younger brother of Queensland Reds twins Saia and Anthony, against whom he played in the top-of-the-table Super Rugby round 10 match in Brisbane on Saturday night, was a great signing because of his versatility and his desire to constantly challenge himself.
"He is a tremendous openside flanker, who can cover all positions in the backrow, which is a skill not many forwards possess in this competition," Hill said. "During the club's conversations with Colby, he was always wanting to come to the Rebels for an opportunity to play and ultimately improve his rugby.
"At 22 years of age, he has waited patiently behind some very capable footballers and I am sure that his patience will be rewarded with an opportunity. He is an extremely hard worker and a very respected member of the rugby community. We know he will have an impact on not only the Rebels, but the entire Victorian rugby landscape."
Faingaa, born in Queanbeyan New South Wales, made his Super Rugby debut for the Brumbies in 2010 against the Chiefs in Canberra.
