Digby Ioane is flying home from Queensland Reds' tour of South Africa after sustaining a knee injury in the Super Rugby round 14 loss to the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Ioane sustained a soft tissue injury to his left knee in the Reds' 27-13 loss at Free State Stadium, and he is returning to Brisbane for scans.

The Reds have not sent for a replacement, as the injury is not considered serious, opening the door for centre Ben Tapuai to return to the starting team with Chris Feauai-Sautia moving to the wing.

Ioane, named on Sunday in the initial 25-man Wallabies squad to face the British & Irish Lions, is set to leave Australian rugby at the end of the season having agreed a lucrative contract with Paris-based French Top 14 club Stade Francais
