Melbourne Rebels have signed Tom Kingston from New South Wales Waratahs, the former Australia Under-20 winger officially agreeing to terms for two seasons.

The Rebels confirmed the deal as reports circulated they had captured Bernard Foley from the Waratahs. Rugby Gold reported on Friday that Foley "has been lured by a sizeable offer and has already signed".

Foley is enjoying a stellar season for the Waratahs, leading the Super Rugby statistics for try assists (13) and linebreak assists (11), and his reported move to Melbourne is sure to increase speculation that Kurtley Beale will head north up the Hume Highway alongside scrum-half Nick Phipps.

Rebels general manager of rugby Sam Cordingley is pleased with the direction the Rebels squad is taking for future years, saying of Kingston: "We have been watching Tom's progress for some time. His early-season form suggested that he probably could have seen more game time this season. He is a quality person and a fantastic athlete who will realise his potential with regular time on the park in a Rebels jersey. With the departure of Richard Kingi, there was an opportunity to recruit a quality outside back - and Tom is certainly that. We are all thrilled to have Tom at the club over the next two years."

Kingston joins Wallabies half-back Luke Burgess and Waratahs backrower Lopeti Timani at the Rebels for next season, along with Australian-born players Tom Sexton, Toby Smith and Max Lahiff who will join from abroad.
