Super Rugby - International Break
Hurricanes and Highlanders win
June 21, 2013
The Hurricanes and the Highlanders have each won their non-championship fixtures as they prepare for the resumption of Super Rugby after the international break.
The Hurricanes to scored six tries to three to beat the Crusaders 38-17 for the third time this year, after wins during the pre-season and competition proper, while Highlanders half-back Frae Wilson scored a late try to secure a 26-24 win over a Southland Invitational team in Dunedin. Lima Sopoaga missed a last-minute penalty for the Southland side, and the Highlanders can claim a measure of confidence for their next Super Rugby game against the Crusaders in Dunedin on Saturday.
Hurricanes centre Reynold Lee-Lo put on a virtuoso performance in Levin, the Counties-Manukau midfielder setting up three of the Hurricanes' four first-half tries and scoring two himself in the second half.
The Crusaders opened the scoring after slick handling put fullback Tom Marshall over out wide in the 10th minute, but the Hurricanes thereafter made majority of the play and shut down the Crusaders backline. Joe Moody and Telusa Veainu also scored tries for the Crusaders while Reg Goodes, Richard Buckman, Chris Smylie and Ope Pleseuma crossed for the Hurricanes.
