The Hurricanes have named a relatively inexperienced squad for their first match in almost a month when they tackle the Chiefs on Friday.

Winger Matt Proctor and fullback James Marshall have been introduced to the starting line-up at the expense of Andre Taylor and Tim Bateman, who picked up shoulder and knee injuries respectively.

Forwards Jeffery Toomaga-Allen and Motu Matu'u are also unavailable through injury while Ardie Savea has been busy with the Junior All Blacks in their recent Under-20 World Championship. Victor Vito will start for the Hurricanes at No.8 despite playing his last Test at flanker, with Brad Shields getting the nod at No.6.

Vito joins Dane Coles, Jeremy Thrush, Beauden Barrett, Julian Savea and Conrad Smith as those who will suit up for the Wellington franchise after being involved in the All Blacks' 3-0 win over France in the June international window.

Samoa international Alapati Leiua also returns to action and will make an appearance from the bench.

Meanwhile, Blade Thomson could potentially make his debut for the franchise after he was bracketed in the reserves alongside Faifili Levave.

Hurricanes: James Marshall; Matt Proctor, Conrad Smith, Reynold Lee-Lo, Julian Savea; Beauden Barrett; TJ Perenara; Victor Vito, Karl Lowe, Brad Shields; James Broadhurst, Jeremy Thrush; Ben May, Dane Coles, Ben Franks. Replacements: Ash Dixon, Reggie Goodes, Mark Reddish, Faifili Levave/Blade Thomson, Chris Smylie, Tusi Pisi, Alapati Leiua.
