Super Rugby - Melbourne Rebels
Shota Horie re-signs with Melbourne Rebels
July 4, 2013

Shota Horie has earned another Super Rugby season with Melbourne Rebels, the Japan Test hooker signing a one-year contract extension to give him the chance to push for the starting role as Ged Robinson is returning to his native New Zealand.

"I am very glad to stay here in Melbourne for the 2014 season," Horie said. "In my first year, I could not contribute to the team as much as I would have liked, but was able to learn a lot about Super Rugby. Next season I am looking to play more minutes."

Horie has been in impressive form of late, playing a starring role for Japan in the IRB Pacific Nations Cup during the break in the Australian component of the Super Rugby season, and Rebels assistant coach Matt Cockbain said he was showing signs of his ability to be a Super Rugby starter next year.

"Shota is one of the most skilful forwards in the competition," Cockbain said. "His set-piece has come a long way in one season, in particular his scrummaging."
