Super Rugby - Waratahs v Reds
Horwill and Genia to miss Waratahs clash
July 10, 2013

Wallabies duo James Horwill and Will Genia have both been ruled out of the Queensland Reds' Super Rugby derby against the New South Wales Waratahs in Sydney on Saturday night.

Reds skipper Horwill has a calf strain while vice-captain Genia is suffering from a knee cartilage injury as well as a fractured bone in his left hand. Both players took part in last weekend's third Test loss to the British & Irish Lions with the complaints but have been ruled out, with the Reds to play a Super Rugby final next week.

Horwill said despite rumours he was in need of a rest after the gruelling Lions series, he was bitterly disappointed not to be taking on the Waratahs.

"I feel good, obviously it'd be better not to have a calf injury, but I was hoping to play this week," he said. "Playing against NSW for Queensland, it's a big deal. It's disappointing but the plan is to be right next week to take on whoever we face in the finals."

The Reds will name their team on Thursday, with fly-half Quade Cooper likely to take on the captaincy in Horwill and Genia's absence.
