Melbourne Rebels head coach Tony McGahan has bolstered his coaching staff with Australian Rugby Union National Academy coach, Sean Hedger.

Signed as the Super Rugby club's attack coach, Hedger spent five years coaching in various roles in Japan, including the head coach role at Kyuden Voltex.

McGahan said his assistant's wealth of experience was a great asset.

"Sean has had over 10 years coaching experience in professional environments both in Australia and overseas," McGahan said. "These experiences are across different organisations, namely Reds, Top League, and the ARU which give him a great grounding for his new role."

The Rebels have also appointed a new physiotherapist, Josh Bird, and Alison Garth as their dietician.

McGahan took over as head coach from Damien Hill at the end of the 2013 season.
