Ospreys lock De Kock Steenkamp has been ruled out for at least six months but will not need an operation on the Achilles tendon injury he suffered during training.

Steenkamp, who only signed for the club in September, suffered a ruptured Achilles in training. He has yet to play a competitive game.

"It is a significant injury but, fortunately, he doesn't require surgery," said medical performance manager, Chris Towers. "We are looking at a best case scenario of a six month rehab period, but there is no reason why he shouldn't make a full recovery."
