A quick glance at Sonny Bill Williams - all that ink, those bulging muscles and his slick short back-and-sides - leads you to the suspicion that the code-hopping, globe-trotting All Blacks centre is quite the modern man.

On Tuesday, though, he provided concrete confirmation of this fact as he was able to catch the birth of his first child in real-time via the wonders of modern technology.

Williams missed training ahead of New Zealand's game against Wales in Cardiff to provide moral support to his partner Alana Raffie - from 12,000 miles away and over the airwaves - as she gave birth to an as yet unnamed baby girl.

Seemingly on a technological roll, Williams then announced the birth of his new pride and joy to his 404,000 followers on twitter. He tweeted a picture of his tiny tot's tiny toes alongside the arabic word 'alhumdulliah' (with accompanying hashtag for good effect), which means 'all praise and thanks to god'.

All Blacks assistant coach Ian Foster later congratulated Sonny Bill and revealed that prop Charlie Faumuina's wife Rachelle had also given birth to a baby girl last week.

"We are delighted that Sonny and his wife Alana have had a baby girl this morning, so he was following that event," said Foster, "we are delighted the family is good and it comes on top of Charlie and Rachelle, who had a baby girl last week, so its been a week of celebration for the All Blacks."
