Livewire back Tim Nanai-Williams won't miss any games for the Chiefs in 2015 despite his decision to play sevens for Samoa and, hopefully, earn a start at next year's Rugby World Cup.

Nanai-Williams is one of a few players who are making the most of the World Rugby loophole which allows players to switch their allegiance for the Olympics, and by doing so, open up the possibility of playing at the World Cup. The Chiefs flyer has already cleared his decision with coaches Dave Rennie and Wayne Smith, the Waikato Times reporting Nanai-Williams has found the necessary four sevens tournaments he needs to qualify for Samoa; and which do not clash with his Super Rugby commitments.

"I approached Renns [Dave Rennie] and the [Chiefs] staff first when I made my decision and asked them for permission to do this," Nanai-Williams said. "It was all good when it was one tournament but then [World Rugby] hit us with four tournaments and made the process a lot harder. But the staff jumped on board and Renns was really helpful to get me over that line, to play the four tournaments."

Nanai-Williams can play three tournaments during the Chiefs' pre-season while the fourth and final event he needs to qualify for the Olympics can be completed during the Hamilton-based franchise's bye week in May.

The two-time Super Rugby winner had originally held out hope of playing for the All Blacks, but realising the scope of the talent in front of him decided instead to pursue the World Cup with Samoa.

In a further boost for Chiefs fans, Nanai-Williams is keen to commit his future to the franchise beyond next year's showpiece event. "A lot of people have been saying that when you do play in a world cup you seem to leave, but this is the best competition in the world and I'm a competitor, I like to compete and this is the place where I see I can strive week in and week out against the best players in the world, I believe," he said. "We'll just have to wait and see but I'm loving where I am, I've loved this environment since I've been here and I want to stay on."
