Western Province have moved to play down reports that star lock Eben Etzebeth is in talks to join big-spending Top 14 side Toulon after next year's World Cup.

Reports over the weekend in French newspaper Var Matin said that Etzebeth will join the European Champions after the World Cup as a direct replacement for outgoing compatriot Bakkies Botha, who retired from the international game last month and will bow out altogether next year.

Western province Chief Executive Rob Wagner was unperturbed the talk as Etzebeth is under contract in South Africa until the end of 2016.

"I'm not disturbed by such rumours," Wagner told South African newspaper Die Burger.

Etzebeth has been capped 33 times by the Springboks and is one of world rugby's finest locks.
