New South Wales Waratahs scrum-half Brendan McKibbin will join London-Irish on a two-year deal from next season.

The Scotland-born No.9 is the latest Australian to lock in a European move, following the lead of Adam Ashley-Cooper, James Horwill, Nic White and Sekope Kepu.

McKibbin said he was excited by the chance to join a club that was "going places".

"I am delighted to be joining the club. I spoke at length with Bob [Casey] and I am looking forward to be a part of the set up. The facilities are hugely impressive and I'm really excited by the direction the club is looking to go in."

McKibbin has played 64 Super Rugby matches and will again serve as Nick Phipps' back-up at the Waratahs this season. McKibbin's leadership and experience were major attractions for the Exiles who will be coached by current Chiefs assistant Tom Coventry next season.

"Brendan is a top-class player and a real leader on and off the field," London Irish director Bob Casey said. "We have plenty of quality in the scrum-half position and Brendan joining will only strengthen that competition. He has a great work-rate, comes from a winning environment and knows what it takes to win trophies."
