The Highlanders have secured the talent of Patrick Osborne and Joe Wheeler for the 2016 Super Rugby season. Both players have proved themselves since their signing to the team and have further bolstered the side after re-committing.

A strong signing in 2014, Osborne has been in great form since his move and his big showing against the Chiefs and then again against the defending champions the Waratahs on Saturday has seen the Highlanders move into fifth on the Super Rugby table.

"I guess I had a few options to consider before deciding my future, in the end the lifestyle my family has down here and the rugby I have been playing, pretty much made up my mind that the Highlanders was the best option for me," Osborne said of re-committing to the side. "We are a pretty close group down here and we enjoy each other's company and the style we play is good for a winger I think."

Jamie Joseph said he was happy the big ball carrier had re-committed and would continue to expect big things from the star wing.

"Having a player of Patrick's obvious talent has given us some real potency on the flanks; he is a genuine finisher who can also create something from nothing for you. We look forward to him continuing that for us for the next year or two."

Hard working lock, Wheeler also re-signed with the side for another season and after moving to the side in 2011 has become a mainstay of the Highlanders' pack. Playing 29 games for the side, Wheeler said the environment around the Highlanders side suited him.

"I really came down here to get some regular game time and sort of reignite my career again," Wheeler said. "I don't regret it for one minute; since day one I have felt at home here - the environment and style of the game we play suits me perfectly. It's the main reason why I think I have been able to consistent in my form. There are always opportunities off shore but I am quite happy here so I was comfortable committing to the Highlanders."
