Horwill to face SANZAR hearing

Former Wallabies skipper and Reds lock James Horwill will front the SANZAR judicial hearing on a striking charge on Saturday morning after his send-off in their Super Rugby clash with the Melbourne Rebels. Horwill was sent off in the 21st minute at AAMI Park, with the Reds going down to the Rebels 23-15.

The lock was joining a tackle on Paul Alo-Emile with his arm appearing to collect the Rebels prop. The case will be heard by SANZAR Duty Judicial Officer Nicholas Davidson QC.

Horwill was yellow-carded twice in round one against the Brumbies, shown a red card on the second occasion. Those penalties were for infringements at the break-down and maul, not for foul play.

Still, the 29-year-old could find himself missing the Reds' flight to South Africa on Sunday which would be a huge blow for the struggling side. They are taking on the Bulls and the Cheetahs and, while they regain injured Test lock James Slipper, would miss their pack leader.
