Jesse Mogg has joined French Top 14 club Montpellier, rejecting a three-year offer from the Brumbies to re-unite with former Brumbies coach Jake White and captain Ben Mowen on a two-year deal with an option of a third season. White recently also signed Australia scrum-half Nic White from the Brumbies

Fairfax Media reported in Australia that White tabled "a massive offer to Mogg two weeks ago that was too good to refuse". Faifax reported the deal was "believed to be worth double what the Brumbies could come up with".

"I chopped and changed on a decision for a while," Mogg told Fairfax. "At the end of last year I thought I'd go overseas, but then I had shoulder surgery so my aims changed. I wanted to give the Wallabies another crack. I thought I was going to stay and over the last couple of weeks is where it changed."

Mogg said he "spoke to Jake and I had to make a decision, I didn't want it to linger on".

He said the fact that Israel Folau has the position of Wallabies fullback "locked down" made his decision easier because he "didn't want to stay and not play [for Australia]".

"My intentions were to get back into the Test team. It was just a long shot. In terms of my Wallabies aspirations, it's a long shot for the World Cup."
