Henry Speight has been named to make his debut for the Australian Sevens side in the Oceania Olympic Qualifier in Auckland on Saturday and Sunday.

Speight earlier this year signed a new three-year deal with the Brumbies that allows him to play for the Brumbies and the Wallabies and participate in the 2016 Australian Sevens Program - with an eye on the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Ed Jenkins skippers the extended 15-man squad that includes 30-plus cap veterans Jesse Parahi and Con Foley, while Pama Fou, Greg Jeloudev and Henry Hutchison join Wallabies Rugby World Cup player Speight in offering pace out wide. Tom Cusack has been rewarded for his powerful performances during the recent Central Coast Sevens, while star centre Cameron Clark returns after a minor hamstring problem. James Stannard, Lewis Holland, Allan Fa'alava'au and Tom Lucas assume playmaking duties, while Pat McCutcheon (hamstring) and Nick Malouf (knee) were not considered due to their respective hamstring and knee injuries, Three players will be omitted from the final squad on Thursday.

"We have prepared well having played a very valuable series against New Zealand in Rotorua followed by a solid performance at the Central Coast Sevens," interim coach Tim Walsh said. "Training standards have been high and every squad member continues to challenge one another, which has culminated in a stronger team. We have a belief that we will perform and gain us the desired result. However, with a spot at the Rio Olympics on the line in Auckland, we are under no illusion that now is the time to deliver.

Walsh acknowledged that Speight had spent any time with the squad as yet, but "we felt this was an ideal opportunity for him to get used to some of our systems and familiarise himself with the playing group".

"Despite only arriving back from the Rugby World Cup last week, Henry was keen to travel which underlines the passion he has to be part of this squad."

Australia will play Nauru, Cook Islands and Tonga on Day One of the tournament at Trusts Arena, while Pool B features Samoa, Papua New Guinea, American Samoa and Solomon Islands. All competing teams will progress to finals day, when they will be seeded according to their final pool placing: 1st in Pool A will play 4th in Pool B, 2nd in Pool A will play 3rd in Pool B.

The winning team at the Oceania Regional Olympic Qualifier will secure a spot in the 2016 Rio Olympics, while the runners-up and third-placed side will have another chance to progress from the final Olympic qualification tournament at a time and place still to be announced.

Extended squad: Cameron Clark (Northern Suburbs, NSW), Tom Cusack (Canberra Royals, ACT), Allan Fa'alava'au. (Endeavour Hills, Victoria), Con Foley (University of Queensland, Queensland), Pama Fou (Souths, Queensland), Lewis Holland (Queanbeyan Whites, NSW), Henry Hutchison (Randwick, NSW), Greg Jeloudev (Sydney University, NSW), Ed Jenkins (Sydney University, NSW), Tom Lucas (Sunnybank, Queensland), Sam Myers (Northern Suburbs, NSW), Jesse Parahi (Northern Suburbs, NSW), Henry Speight (Brumbies, ACT), James Stannard Souths, Queensland), Michael Wells (Northern Suburbs, NSW).
