Kruger back at the helm of Bulls

Ruben Kruger will be back at the helm of the Northern Bulls for their Vodacom Super 12 game at the weekend against the Reds at Ballymore in Brisbane.

Kruger's injured ankle was given the green light after the Bulls practice on Wednesday in which he played a prominent role. Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer has acknowledged that Kruger's return will be a huge boost for the Bulls.

His inspirational leadership provides a much-needed injection and could be the catalyst for the Bulls to achieve that elusive first victory in this year's competition. Kruger will replace Piet Joubert, who has done a sterling job in his absence at No 6.

Although there was good news about Kruger, there was bad news about star centre Wynand Lourens, whose hamstring strain was still evident in the practice. Lourens injured the hamstring four weeks ago against the Stormers at Newlands and it was initially expected that he would only be out for a week.

Things haven't gone his way and it seems he will miss out again. If the injury doesn't show a remarkable improvement by Thursday, Frikkie Welsh will once again team up with Eugene Meyer in the midfield.

Springbok lock Krynauw Otto has been given the week off to spend time with his wife and newborn baby at home. Coach Meyer has consented to the Reds clash being Otto's rest game as he wants every player to have a rest during the series.

The team will only be finalised on Thursday, but Puma lock Marius Bosman is likely to be Wium Basson's partner at lock.
