The SRU and famous grouse have signed an agreement that will continue the companies links with the Scottish team for a further seven years.
The new deal, which for the first time will also involve support of the Scotland A team, will run until 2004, covering the next Rugby World Cup in 2003.
Scotland have been supported by Famous Grouse since 1990, and were the first Northern hemisphere country to have such backing.
"Our relationship with The Famous Grouse is self-evidently strong," said SRU Chief Executive Bill Watson. "The Famous Grouse has supported Scottish rugby through thick and thin. In spite of all the turbulent transition to professionalism, I am delighted at the faith shown in our national rugby team and Scottish rugby by one of Scotland's major businesses."
"Their decision to renew their sponsorship was made before last Sunday's epic Calcutta Cup match. As I say, it is most gratifying that such faith should be demonstrated in the future of our sport."
Ken Grier, Brands Director for Highland Distillers Limited, said: "We are delighted to be renewing our contract with the Scottish Rugby Union. We are confident that with our continued investment into Scottish rugby, the partnership will go from strength to strength."
