The Italian Club Championship has been thrown into chaos by a dispute over the temporary substitution of a player during the match between Rovigo and Viadana on the last day of Phase One.

Viadana won the away match, 29-27, thanks to a drop goal in injury time thus qualifying to play for the league title in Phase Two starting next Sunday.

Rovigo, who as a consequence of losing are now forced to battle it out to avoid relegation, protested that Viadana's international winger Juan Francesio should not have had a temporary substitute as he was not bleeding.

The Federation accepted their claim and gave Rovigo a 6-0 victory over Viadana. Viadana have now five days to appeal against the decision but, with Day One of the second phase of the championship scheduled for next Sunday, it is unclear which of the teams will be playing where.
