January 19, 2014
Flanker Callum Gibbins beat his own record as he retained his title at this year's Hurricanes Surf to Peak event on Saturday.
The 25-year-old beat home fellow loose forwards Brad Shields and Adam Hill to take the victory in a time of 57 minutes and 55 seconds, beating his 2013 time by 44 seconds.
The punishing event, which started at Lyall Bay, consisted of a 1km run, a 21km cycle around the bays and a 2km uphill run to the Mount Victoria lookout.
There are only three players in the race's history who have completed it in under an hour.
