Schalk Burger says the Stormers will lift their attacking game in Super Rugby this season to match the standard of their famed defence.
The Stormers have won plaudits for being the best defensive team in the competition in recent seasons - they conceded the fewest tries from 2010 until 2013 - but they have, meanwhile, struggled to score at the other end of the field. They were bottom of the try count in 2012, and Western Force and Southern Kings alone scored fewer tries in 2013.
Burger told Die Burger: "In the past our defence put us in such a comfort zone that we simply didn't put any emphasis on attack. This year the focus is to get our attacking game at the same standard as our defence."
But that focus won't see them relax their defence, with Burger saying "we'll keep the standard high" because defence is part and parcel of the Stormers' approach.
"It's important to stick with the plan we've decided to undertake, otherwise we'll experience an identity crisis," Burger said.
