Jacques-Louis Potgieter is believed to have signed a two-year deal to return to the Bulls from Bayonne ahead of the Super Rugby season, providing the three-time champions will valuable extra depth at fly-half after the departure of Morne Steyn.

The Bulls have only Louis Fouche and Handre Pollard as recognised five-eighths on their books, while Jurgen Visser can provide cover and Tony Jantjies is on the fringes of the squad, but Potgieter's arrival will add to the sense of competition within the squad. , The Bulls have not confirmed the signing, with high performance manager Xander Janse van Rensburg telling Supersport that the addition of a third flyhalf was "currently just speculation" and "a possibility that we are exploring", but the South African website has reported sources in France as confirming that Potgieter has already received permission from Bayonne to make the move and will arrive in Pretoria on Tuesday

Potgieter went through the Bulls' ranks to make his Super Rugby debut in 2007, before moving to the Cheetahs for two seasons and returning to the Bulls in 2010. He then moved to the Sharks for the 2011 season before moving to Bayonne.
