Western Force scrum-half Alby Mathewson has escaped serious punishment for stamping on Sam Cane during the 18-15 Super Rugby win over the Chiefs, receiving a one-week suspension that covers his team's seventh-round bye.
SANZAR duty judicial officer Adam Casselden noted in handing down the ban on Sunday that the recommended entry-point ban for the offence was two weeks, which would have ruled him out of the April 5 meeting with Queensland Reds at Suncorp Stadium.
"[But] based on the acceptance of the indicated sanction, the player's excellent disciplinary and playing record and in recognition of his early plea, a discount from the lower-end entry point to a one-week suspension was imposed," Casselden said.
Mathewson is officially free to play again from March 30.
