Cheika hearing for abusing cameraman adjourned

A hearing into allegations that Waratahs coach Michael Cheika abused a television cameraman on the sideline during their tour in South Africa has been adjourned after three hours.

Cheika appeared via teleconference from the Waratahs' hotel in Auckland ahead of their match against the Blues. He is accused of verbally threatening a cameraman in the second half of the Waratahs' loss to the Sharks in Durban on March 29.

A statement from Super Rugby's governing body SANZAR said judicial officer Nigel Hampton QC had adjourned the hearing "for consideration and to make decisions on factual matters presented during the hearing".

The misconduct charge has been kept well under wraps with SANZAR refusing to provide details to the media. A case was brought against Cheika and set down for an April 16 hearing, but it was postponed after the Waratahs coach asked for an extra week to prepare his case.

The alleged incident took place in South Africa less than two weeks after Cheika smashed a glass door at Canberra Stadium following a loss to the Brumbies.

The hearing will resume next Tuesday..
