The Crusaders made an early call on Tuesday to rule Read out of contention for the match against Queensland Reds in Brisbane on Sunday, a week after he missed the victory over the Brumbies, but the team captain is not worried about his long-term health. Indeed, he is confident he will be fit to return to the starting side that faces the Sharks a week on Saturday. "Certainly, it's a worrying injury any time you get one," Read said of concussion. "But if you do the [recovery] process right and you're honest in how you're feeling . . . and I know [Crusaders doctor Deb Robinson] is going to look after me and make sure I get back on the field 100% ready to go." Read conceded "there is worry, definitely, from my wife" but he said that Dr Robinson was "doing a great job with me and I don't want to put myself at risk". He said that he was "feeling pretty good now", but he had suffered headaches last week and was "walking around in a little bit of a fog, I guess". Dr Robinson said that Read had "a really mild concussion", which she rated as two out of 10 on the severity scale. She said she was taking a cautious approach simply because Read had suffered two concussions over a short period, but she said that he did not have a cumulative concussion problem because he had recovered completely from his first knock, against the Hurricanes on March 28. © ESPN Sports Media Ltd.
