Western Force No 8 Ben McCalman has pushed his way back towards the top of the Greg Growden Medal with another excellent defensive performance against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

McCalman, an early medal leader before he was suspended, polled in his eighth game this year, to now be just four points behind leader Michael Hooper.

Brumbies scrum-half Nic White is in third place after being among his province's best players when they defeated the Sharks in Canberra. White appears certain to be part of the Wallabies squad to play France next month.

Reds scrum-half Will Genia was the only Reds player to receive any points after the sides abysmal loss to the Crusaders on Sunday. While the rest of his side fell apart, Genia was the sides only player to impress.

In a generally dour round, with numerous Australian teams sending crowds to sleep with their obsession with midfield kicking, few attacking players were able to shine.
