Bulls coach Frans Ludeke has stepped down from his head coach role effective immediately. A press release following the Bulls mauling to the Cheetahs in Pretoria stated Ludeke would step down from the coaching role with the Bulls Super Rugby side as well as the Currie Cup side.

The Bulls have appointed Nollis Marais as the replacement head coach for the Currie Cup competition with the appointment of the Super Rugby head coach expected to be finalised soon.

The 43-year old Marais said of his appointment: "This is a dream come true for me and something I have always wanted to do and worked towards in the various Blue Bulls structures. I would like to thank John Newbury, Chairman of the Board as well as other directors, the BBRU and president Gert Wessels and also the BBC and CEO, Barend van Graan for their confidence in me to take over this important position. I would also like to thank Frans Ludeke, Johann van Graan and Heyneke Meyer who served as mentors to me."

The Bulls were shocked at home against the Cheetahs on Saturday night, and suffered their first loss to the Cheetahs at home in Super Rugby history. The Bulls ended the season in ninth place while the Cheetahs finished 12th.
