Key Stats

  • The Hurricanes have won five of the past six matches against the Crusaders, all by a margin of seven points or fewer.
  • The Crusaders have averaged more clean breaks per game (11.3) than any other side this season, while the Hurricanes lead the way for defenders beaten (23). The Hurricanes have gained more metres per game than any other side this season (533) while the Crusaders rank second in that regard (520).
  • The Canes (96%) and the Crusaders (92%) rank first and second respectively for scrum success this season.

Line-ups

  • Crusaders: Tom Taylor; Nafi Tuitavake, Robbie Fruean, David Havili, Nemani Nadolo; Dan Carter, Mitchell Drummond; Jordan Taufua, Richie McCaw (captain), Matt Todd; Jimmy Tupou, Luke Romano; Owen Franks, Ben Funnell, Alex Hodgman Replacements: Codie Taylor, Tim Perry, Nepo Laulala, Dominic Bird, Luke Whitelock, Andy Ellis, Kieron Fonotia, Jone Macilai
  • Hurricanes: James Marshall; Nehe Milner-Skudder, Conrad Smith, Ma'a Nonu, Julian Savea; Otere Black, TJ Perenara; Blade Thomson, Ardie Savea, Brad Shields; James Broadhurst, Jeremy Thrush; Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, Dane Coles, Reggie Goodes Replacements: Motu Matu'u, Ben May, Ben Franks, Mark Abbott, Victor Vito, Chris Smylie, Rey Lee-Lo, Matt Proctor

Injuries/Unavailble

  • Hurricanes: Beauden Barrett (Knee, Round 17), Jason Woodward (Ankle, Season)

Team News

  • Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder has made seven changes to the starting line-up that faced the Waratahs last weekend, with four more changes on the bench. Prop Alex Hodgman makes his first start of the season, replacing injured Joe Moody, with Nepo Laulala and Tim Perry providing cover - the latter playing his first game since rupturing his Achilles at the end of 2014. Sam Whitelock, Kieran Read and Ryan Crotty are sidelined with concussion, replaced by Jimmy Tupou, Matt Todd and Robbie Fruean respectively. Richie McCaw assumes the captaincy from Read, with Jordan Taufua claiming the No.8 jumper. Colin Slade and Israel Dagg are also both out with injuries, with Dan Carter moving to No.10 and Tom Taylor at fullback.
  • Ma'a Nonu will stand alone as the most capped player in Super Rugby history having been named to make his 123rd appearance, while the Hurricanes welcome back Reggie Goodes, James Broadhurst, Ben Franks, Conrad Smith and Matt Proctor. Aside from Smith's inclusion, Chris Boyd has retained the backline from last week to give 20-year-old Otere Black his second start at first five-eighth.

Greg Growden's Verdict: I can't believe I'm still tipping the Hurricanes. What a wacky season. Nurse!

Line-ups

  • Brumbies: Jesse Mogg; Henry Speight, Tevita Kuridrani, Robbie Coleman, Joe Tomane; Christian Lealiifano, Nic White; Ita Vaea, David Pocock, Scott Fardy; Sam Carter, Rory Arnold; Ben Alexander, Stephen Moore (c), Scott Sio. Replacements: Josh Mann-Rea, Allan Alaalatoa, Ruan Smith, Jordan Smiler, Jarrad Butler, Michael Dowsett, Nigel Ah Wong, James Dargaville.

Injuries/Unavailble

  • Brumbies: Matt Toomua (Leg, TBC)
  • Bulls: Carlo Engelbracht (Ankle, Round 17), Bandise Maku (Chest, Season), Duncan Matthews (Knee, Season), Ryan Nell (Knee, Season), Pierre Schoeman (Knee, Season), Ruan Steenkamp (Knee, Season), Piet van Zyl (Knee, Season)

Team News

  • The Brumbies will again be without Matt Toomua after the Wallabies inside back re-injured his leg against the Lions a fortnight ago. There is one big inclusion however with prop Scott Sio finally fit after an extended stint on the sidelines.
  • Victor Matfield rests in compliance with the SARU agreement for Springboks players, while Jurgen Visser replaces Jesse Kriel as the latter recovers from a bruised knee. Burger Odendaal replaces Jan Serfontein in the midfield. Adriaan Strauss returns to the front-row after being rested while Grant Hattingh replaces Matfield. Dean Greyling rotates with Trevor Nyakane at loose-head and Arno Botha swops places with Jacques du Plessis at the side of the scrum in the other changes to the pack.

Greg Growden's Verdict: Australia could easily have only one team in the finals so top spot in the conference is imperative. The Brumbies want to win this match to edge ahead of the Waratahs, and that should happen.

Key Stats

  • The Sharks have won 10 of their past 11 home fixtures against Australian opposition, while the Rebels are yet to win in South Africa continues; the rebels have lost all nine games in the Republic, conceding at least 30 points in eight of those matches.
  • The Rebels have made the most carries per game this season (123) while only the Cheetahs have made fewer than the Sharks (88).
  • Only the Stormers have conceded more tries than the Sharks (11) in the 20 minutes before half-time, while the Rebels have conceded the second most in the 20 minutes after the break (14).

Line-ups

  • Sharks: Lwazi Mvovo; Odwa Ndungane, JP Pietersen, Andre Esterhuizen, S'bura Sithole; Lionel Cronje, Stefan Ungerer; Ryan Kankowski, Willem Alberts / Etienne Oosthuizen, Renaldo Bothma; Marco Wentzel (captain), Mouritz Botha; Jannie du Plessis, Bismarck du Plessis, Tendai Mtawarira Replacements: Franco Marais, Matt Stevens, Lourens Adriaanse, Lubabalo Mtyanda, Etienne Oosthuizen / Khaya Majola, Conrad Hoffmann, Fred Zeilinga, Heimar Williams
  • Rebels: Mike Harris; Dom Shipperley, Sefanaia Naivalu, Mitch Inman, Tom English; Jack Debreczeni, Luke Burgess; Scott Higginbotham (captain), Colby Fainga'a, Sean McMahon; Lopeti Timani, Luke Jones; Laurie Weeks, Pat Leafa, Toby Smith Replacements: Tom Sexton, Cruze Ah-Nau, Paul Alo-Emile, Cadeyrn Neville, Scott Fuglistaller, Nic Stirzaker, Jordy Reid, Bryce Hegarty

  • Rebels: Tamati Ellison (Groin, TBC), Tim Metcher (Knee, TBC)

Team News

  • The Sharks have dropped Frans Steyn, the playmaker replaced by Andre Esterhuizen after he sustained a Super Rugby campaign-ending chest injury against the Reds. Ryan Kankowski is the other key change to the team, named to play in a re-jigged back-row for the first time since the week after Easter. Willem Alberts, meanwhile, must undergo a late fitness test, and he has been bracketed with Etienne Oosthuizen. Marcell Coetzee is being rested, so Renaldo Bothma moves back to the openside. Mouritz Botha comes into the second-row after Stephan Lewies sustained a season-ending knee injury.
  • Melbourne Rebels coach Tony McGahan has made five changes to his starting line-up, with Sefanaia Naivalu and Toby Smith the highest-profile inclusions. Wallabies Luke Burgess and Laurie Weeks have also been named alongside flanker Colby Fainga'a. Naivalu will partner Mitch Inman in the centres, allowing Dom Shipperley to return to the right wing, while Weeks starts after coming off the bench in the past two matches upon his return from a knee injury.

Greg Growden's Verdict: The Rebels keep fighting away, but they are sadly one or two players short of being a top line-up; so they are confronting another tough South African battle.

Injuries/Unavailble

  • Highlanders: Shane Christie (Hamstring, TBC), Kane Hames, TBC), Waisake Naholo (Foot, TBC), Hayden Parker (Shoulder, TBC), Joe Wheeler (Knee, Season)
  • Chiefs: Michael Allardice (Knee, Season), Johan Bardoul (Knee, Season), Aaron Cruden (Knee, Season), Nathan Harris (Ankle, TBC), Tawera Kerr-Barlow (Knee, Season), Tevita Koloamatangi (Ankle, Season), Liam Messam (Shoulder, TBC)

Team News

  • The Highlanders have made two changes for their final home game of the season, with Tom Franklin starting after Mark Reddish sustained a hand injury against the Force and Richard Buckman returning to the midfield in place of Shaun Treeby. Joe Latta provides lock cover from the bench while Jason Emery completes the back reserves.
  • Liam Messam is the key name missing from the Chiefs' team sheet, the back-rower replaced by Maama Vaipulu as he undergoes further tests on his injured shoulder. Michael Fitzgerald returns to the second-row to parter Ross Filipo after recovering from his thigh injury, with Pauliasi Manu also returning to the front-row. Marty McKenzie starts at No.10 with his brother, Damian, moving to fullback. In the only other change to the team, Mitchell Crosswell comes into the reserves. Sam Cane captains the side in Messam's absence.

Greg Growden's Verdict: This is the moment where the Highlanders can make it really tough for the Chiefs. They have the belief, and the Southlanders will be revving them up accordingly.

Force v Queensland Reds, Perth Oval, Perth

Head-to-head: Played 14, Force 6, Reds 7, Drawn 1

In Perth: Played 6, Force 4, Reds 1, Drawn 1

Last clash: Round 2, Reds 18-6 Force, Brisbane

Key Stats

  • The Force (17m27s) and the Reds (16m36s) rank first and second for average time spent in possession this season.
  • The Force have made the fewest clean breaks this season, averaging just 5.1 per game.
  • Only the Force (53%) have a worse kick success this season than the Reds (58%).

Line-ups

  • Force: Dane Haylett-Petty; Luke Morahan, Marcel Brache, Kyle Godwin, Nick Cummins; Sias Ebersohn, Ryan Louwrens; Ben McCalman, Matt Hodgson (captain), Angus Cottrell; Adam Coleman, Steve Mafi; Tetera Faulkner, Nathan Charles, Pekahou Cowan Replacements: Heath Tessmann, Chris Heiberg, Guy Millar, Sam Wykes, Kane Koteka, Alby Mathewson, Luke Burton, Patrick Dellit
  • Reds: James O'Connor; Chris Feauai-Sautia, Karmichael Hunt, Samu Kerevi, Lachie Turner; Quade Cooper, Will Genia; Jake Schatz, Liam Gill, Adam Thomson; James Horwill, Rob Simmons; Greg Holmes, James Hanson, James Slipper Replacements: Andrew Ready, Pettowa Paraka, Sam Talakai, Ed O'Donoghue, Beau Robinson, Nick Frisby, Jake McIntyre, Ben Tapuai, Jamie-Jerry Taulagi

Injuries/Unavailble

  • Force: Francois van Wyk (Chest, Season)
  • Reds: Curtis Browning (Knee, TBC), Ben Daley (Shoulder, Season), Duncan Paia'aua (Concussion, Season), Eddie Quirk (Knee, TBC)

Team News

  • Michael Foley has named an unchanged 23-man Westerm Force squad for the first time since the fixture against the Cheetahs in Round 12 last season. "It's exciting to finish with three derby matches - two of them in Perth - and the guys are very driven to finish the season well," Foley said.
  • Quade Cooper returns from a two-month injury lay-off after being named in Queensland reds' starting side to play Western Force at nib Stadium in Perth this Saturday. Cooper's inclusion is one of two changes to the starting side, with Lachie Turner returning from concussion to replace Chris Kuridrani and Beau Robinson selected in his first match-day squad of the campaign after tearing a calf muscle in pre-season. Kuridrani is absent with a calf injury.

Greg Growden's Verdict: One consolation is the fact the game is not the usual 10pm (EST) Force kick-off, having everyone on the eastern seaboard wondering after 10 minutes why they bothered staying up to watch this rubbish? The Reds' involvement just turns it into even more of a comedy caper.

Team News

  • Nizaam Carr wins his 50th Stormers cap as Schalk Burger is rested as part of the South African franchises' agreement with SA Rugby, while Vincent Koch starts at tight-head and Nic Groom stars at scrum-half - the pair replacing Frans Malherbe and Louis Schreuder respectively. Oli Kebble comes in for Ali Vermaak on the bench while Vodacom Cup star Sikhumbuzo Notshe will provide back-row cover.
  • Naka Drotske has named his final Cheetahs team, with Joe Pietersen the key inclusion having overcome a shoulder injury. Tienie Burger also returns from injury, the pair replacing Carel Greeff and Francois Brummer respectively. Sergeal Petersen replaces Cornal Hendricks on the right wing, with scrum-half Sarel Pretorius replacing Shaun Venter on the bench.

Greg Growden's Verdict: The Stormers have a handy leg-up just before finals time in hosting three home games in a row. The Cheetahs haven't anything to play for. The Stormers do.

Key Stats

  • The Brumbies (twice) are the only Australian side to defeat the Lions (W3) in South Africa since 2012.
  • The Waratahs have scored more first-phase tries than any other team this season (19) while the Lions have scored a joint-high nine tries after 7+ phases.
  • The sides boast three of the top six tacklers in Super Rugby: Warren Whiteley, 204 from 211; Warwick Tecklenburg, 153 from 159; and Michael Hooper, 144 from 165.

Line-ups

  • Lions: Andries Coetzee; Ruan Combrinck, Lionel Mapoe, Harold Vorster, Courtnall Skosan; Elton Jantjies, Faf de Klerk; Warren Whiteley (captain), Warwick Tecklenburg, Jaco Kriel; Franco Mostert, Martin Muller; Julian Redelinghuys, Armand van der Merwe, Schalk van der Merwe Replacements: Malcolm Marx, Corne Fourie, Ruan Dreyer, Robert Kruger, Kwagga Smith, Ross Cronje, Marnitz Boshoff, Stokkies Hanekom

  • Michael Cheika has made three changes to the matchday 23 that defeated the Crusaders, with Hugh Roach and Mitchell Chapman replacing suspended Tolu Latu and Will Skelton respectively. Dave Porecki and Jacques Potgieter, who has overcome a chest injury, respectively replace Roach and Chapman on the pine
Greg Growden's Verdict: The Waratahs are getting all punchy and aggressive at the right time , but the loss of Will Skelton and Tolu Latu at a judiciary meeting for a silly dump tackle in the previous match will hit them hard.
