The Crusaders' long play-off streak in Super Rugby is over.

The seven-time champions last missed the finals in 2001 and they had kept their hopes of extending that run alive with 34-11 bonus-point win over the Blues in Auckland on Saturday. But the door was shut on them when defending title-holders the Waratahs downed the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein 58-33 to climb to the top of the Australian conference, with the Crusaders six points behind the sixth-placed Brumbies.

With one round to go, the six teams who will be involved in the post-season have been confirmed: the Hurricanes, Waratahs, Stormers, Chiefs, Highlanders and Brumbies. While the Hurricanes have an unassailable lead at the top of the table, the order of the five other qualifiers won't be decided until next weekend.

The Highlanders are away to the second-bottom Blues on Friday night, before the Chiefs host the Hurricanes in New Plymouth the following night.
