'Tongan Thor' named in Queensland Reds 2016 Super Rugby squad

New Zealand schoolboy 'Tongan Thor' has been officially named in the Queensland Reds 2016 Super Rugby squad. Taniela Tupou was signed by the Reds in 2014 after he burst to fame with his strong running and try-scoring deeds at Sacred Heart College First XV in Auckland.

He made his next step on his high-profile rugby journey making several appearances for Queensland Country during the 2015 National Rugby Championship, where he added to his highlights reel scoring six tries in three matches, including two match-winning tries.

The 135kg prop is one of eight new faces in the Reds 2016 squad and began pre-season training this week in preparation of the expanded 2016 Super Rugby season, which kicks off Friday, February 26 with Blues hosting the Highlanders while the Reds will open their season against the Waratahs in Sydney.
