The Sharks ran in six tries to secure an emphatic 43-8 victory against Southern Kings on the opening Super Rugby weekend.

Chris Cloete drove over from a maul to give the hosts the lead in the 10th minute, before Odwa Ndungane touched down in the corner for the visitors at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Elgar Watts' penalty saw the Kings level at 8-8 with 28 minutes gone but they failed to add any further points.

Jean-Luc du Preez planted the ball down for the the Sharks' second try just past the half-hour mark, before debutant Willie Le Roux ran half the length of the pitch to add the third after the break.

Paul Jordaan then went over following a maul in the 48th minute with Lwazi Mvovo making it 36-8 with an hour gone.

Ndungane then completed the scoring two minutes from the end, with Joe Pietersen finishing the match with 13 points after five conversions and a 16th-minute penalty.
