Western Force prop Gareth Hardy is likely to spend at least four weeks on the sidelines after sustaining ankle ligament damage during Sunday's loss to the Crusaders at Subiaco Oval.

Hardy was replaced in the 65th minute of the gripping Week 4 encounter after twisting his ankle in a scrum.

An MRI scan on Monday afternoon confirmed the 27-year-old had suffered ligament damage and will miss the team's two-match tour of New Zealand.

Western Force team doctor Peter Steele said it is hard to pinpoint recovery time for injuries like Hardy's.

"Gareth's injury is very similar to a Syndesmosis sprain which can be difficult to assess at the early stages as to how long his recovery period will be," said Steele.

"He will wear a supportive boot for about ten days and he'll hopefully be back running in three weeks."

Coach John Mitchell will name his team tomorrow to play the Blues at North Harbour Stadium in Albany (NZ) on Saturday (1.30pm WA kick off).
