  • Promising young fly-half Aaron Cruden will continue to play his rugby for Manawatu next year and will be able to play for the Hurricanes in the Super 14.

However, if Manawatu are relegated from the Air New Zealand Cup if the competition is cut from 14 to 10 teams, the union indicated that it would support Cruden in a transfer or loan to another province.

Cruden, who captained the New Zealand under 20 side which won the World Cup in Japan earlier this year and named IRB World Junior Player of the Year, was chased by a number of other unions.

Following a year fighting testicular cancer in 2008, Cruden has overcome his illness to play 12 games for Manawatu over the last two years of the Air New Zealand Cup competition.

  • Bath have announce that Rowly Williams has joined the West Country team as kicking coach.

Williams began his senior coaching career under Dick Best at Harlequins before joining the Wasps backroom team team during their three major consecutive trophy winning seasons. Most recently he has just finished his third season with Wigan Warriors in the 13-man Super League.

  • Waikato centre Save Tokula has escaped further punishment for a dangerous tackle in an Air NZ Cup match last weekend.

Tokula pleaded guilty to a charge of a dangerous tackle at a New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) judicial hearing in Wellington. He was sinbinned by match officials for the tackle of Wellington wing David Smith in Hamilton last Saturday.

  • Auckland's Air NZ Cup hopes have taken a big knock because of a mounting injury toll.

Injury today ruled out prop Paea Fa'anunu for the remainder of the season while fly-half Daniel Bowden will be sidelined for at least one month. Auckland, who are in fifth place with a four-win four-loss record, last week lost wing Dave Thomas for the season because of a knee injury.
