Brumbies fly-half Matt Giteau could face a fine or suspension for comments made about referee Steve Walsh.
The Canberra franchise were incensed by Walsh's handling of their derby loss to the Waratahs last weekend, when a try to wing Adam Ashley-Cooper was chalked off incorrectly and skipper Stephen Hoiles became involved in a running debate with the Kiwi official. Walsh is in line to take charge of the Brumbies' vital derby meeting with the Reds this weekend, much to Giteau's chagrin.
"I don't know if we will turn up," he told AAP."What's the point? Like everyone who knows rugby, that was a try."
The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) are understood to have forwarded the fly-half's comments to SANZAR for review. The Brumbies had called for Walsh to be demoted but could now go into their remaining games without their key playmaker should he be suspended. A loss to the play-off chasing Reds would likely spell the end of their title hopes after a difficult season. Should SANZAR elect to take action against Giteau, he could reportedly face a disciplinary hearing as early as Thursday.
