Australia have beed dealt a huge blow ahead of the forthcoming international season with confirmation that hooker Stephen Moore will be sidelined for at least 12 weeks after breaking his jaw during the Brumbies' 40-22 loss to the Crusaders on Friday.

Moore, who won the last of his 46 caps against Wales last November, underwent surgery in Christchurch on Saturday and will miss the Test matches against Fiji, England and Ireland next month and also the first half of this year's Tri-Nations.

Waratahs hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau is now favourite to fill the Wallabies' No.2 shirt although he is likely to be rested for the clash with Fiji on June 5 should the Waratahs make the Super 14 final the week before. Such a scenario would open the door to his Reds counterpart Saia Faingaa who also boasts strong claims after an impressive season. Faingaa missed the Reds' 38-36 win over the Highlanders on Saturday with a neck injury but is expected to be fit after a short break. Brumbies back-up Huia Edmonds and Western Force duo Pek Cowan and Nathan Charles would also be in the mix.

Wallabies coach Robbie Deans is also awaiting an update on Reds scrum-half Will Genia who picked up a knee injury in Brisbane. Genia suffered a medial ligament strain while blindside flanker Scott Higginbotham will also be checked on Monday after limping off in the first half with an ankle injury.
