Sharks coach John Plumtree has signed a new three-year contract with the franchise.

The New Zealander will remain in Durban until 2013 after presiding over after a mixed Super 14 campaign, in which some abysmal early from was replaced by renewed steel as they won seven out of their last eight games.

Plumtree delivered the side's first silverware since 1996 with the 2008 Currie Cup, securing his second winner's medal after also winning a title while a player.

His coaching résumé also features stints with Swansea, Wellington and New Zealand.

"Just as team continuity and experience is vital amongst playing personnel, the coaching management can only grow with continuity and I look forward to the next three years with the same excitement and passion that has characterised my time with The Sharks in the past - both as a player and in a coaching role," he said.
