Racing Metro have reportedly entered the race to sign Toulon half-back Matt Giteau.

Metro's fly-half Johnny Sexton has agreed to return to Leinster ahead of the 2015-16 campaign and they are keen to bring in Toulon star Giteau to fill the void, according to Midi Olympique. The newspaper reports Metro have put an offer of €1m a season on the table for the playmaker.

Toulon would be keen to keep Giteau at the club as he has proved to be integral to their recent success. The newspaper adds Toulon chief Mourad Boudjellal and coach Bernard Laporte will sit down with Giteau in the next few weeks in an attempt to thrash out a new deal.

The news of Metro's interest in Giteau is likely to do little to quash the recent war of words between Toulon owner Boudjellal and his Metro counterpart Jacky Lorenzetti. Lorenzetti has recently questioned Toulon's adherence to the salary cap while Boudjellal has responded by poking fun at Metro's lack of success.
